The interiors studio of Margot Ferren & Isaac Low London · Lisbon

Quiet rooms, built to hold their own light.

We take on a handful of homes, hotels and stubborn old buildings each year, and give every one of them our full attention.

A way of working

Most interiors are designed for their first photograph. We design for year nine, when the oak has darkened, the brass has gone soft at the edges, and the room has learned how you live.

Materials first

Every project begins as a table of samples, not a render. If a material can't age gracefully in your climate, with your children and your dog, it doesn't make the table.

Few, and deep

Eight projects a year, never more. It means we can be at the joinery workshop on a Tuesday when the veneer arrives looking wrong, which is the day it matters.

No house style

Our clients' homes don't match each other, and that's the point. What repeats is the standard of making, not the look.

The shape of a project

Slow at the start,
certain at the end.

01

The first visit

We come to you. We measure everything, photograph everything, and ask how you actually live rather than how you'd like to. The brief that comes out of this is usually different from the one that came in.

02

The long look

Weeks of drawings, models and material hunting. You see one considered proposal, not forty options. We'd rather argue for a point of view than hide behind a mood board.

03

Making

We build with a small circle of joiners, plasterers and metalworkers we've known for years. Someone from the studio is on site every week, usually carrying pastries.

04

The handover, slowly

We stay through the snagging, the hanging of the last picture, and one dinner at your new table. Then we leave you alone.

The studio

A small studio, on purpose.

Margot Ferren

Founder, creative direction

Spent twelve years designing theatre sets before her first apartment commission. Still believes every room deserves an opening night.

Isaac Low

Founder, making & detail

Trained as a cabinetmaker in Copenhagen. Judges every project by its drawer runners, and is usually right to.

Tell us about your rooms.

Every project starts with a walk through the space and a pot of coffee. No decks, no discovery calls. Write to us with your address and a little about the building, and we'll take it from there.
